Geraldine is a Consultant and former Head of the Military Injury team at Irwin Mitchell. She has acted for almost 35 years for air crash victims and for service personnel in claims against the Ministry of Defence.
Named by the Lawyer magazine as Lawyer of the Year in 1993, she was added to their Hall of Fame in 2007 as one of the most effective Claimant lawyers in the field of personal injury and product liability.
Geraldine has acted for Claimants in disasters such as Piper Alpha, Pan Am bombing over Lockerbie, British Midland crash at Kegworth, Swissair crash of Canada and the Korean Airlines crash at Stanstead.
Geraldine has acted in military aviation crashes since Chinook Mull of Kintyre crash 1994 including three Puma crashes 2007, Lynx crash near Leicester 1999 and crashes involving Hercules, Tornado, Nimrod and Hawk aircraft.
Geraldine is Vice Chair of the Royal British Legion Solicitors’ Group, a former member of the Civil Litigation Committee of the Law Society, President of the Manchester Law Society 2002, National Chair of Young Solicitors’ Group 1993 and Cheshire Woman of the Year 2003.
Geraldine has co-authored the Law Society Civil Litigation Handbook , Multi-Party Actions published by the Legal Action Group and is a former author of the Litigation Column for the Law Society Gazette. She has appeared regularly on TV discussing claims against the MOD, aircraft investigation and “friendly fire incidents”.
Geraldine has a particular interests in inquests and acted for the Widow of Sergeant Roberts, the first soldier fatality in Iraq with evidence from the inquest on lack of enhanced combat armour then being submitted to the Chilcot enquiry. Geraldine also acted for the Widow of Corporal of Horse, Matty Hull, also killed in the first month following the Iraq invasion and for several families of 3 Commando Brigade personnel killed in a US Sea Knight aircraft. Her military work includes acting for members of Specialist Units.
Geraldine has campaigned on matters of aviation safety over the years including smoke hoods in aircraft, the brace position and for awareness of DVT whilst flying. She has lectured around the world on her work including to the Association of Trial Lawyers in America, the American Bar Association and to Aviation Solicitors of Australian and New Zealand.
Geraldine works with several military charities and is particularly interested in issues surrounding the Armed Forces Covenant.
